Consumption & Survey Statistics

Survey Targets: Entities ultimately consuming energy, including businesses, households, vehicles, and buildings, following the standards and definitions provided by the Korean Standard Industrial Classification (KSIC) and Population and Housing Census
- Industry: Agriculture and forestry (businesses, households), Fisheries (businesses, households), Construction (businesses, construction machinery), Mining and manufacturing
  * Data for mining and manufacturing sectors sourced from the "Survey on Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Industrial Sector”
- Transportation: Commercial transportation services (for business use), official vehicles (government-owned), and private vehicles (personally owned)
- Commercial & Public Sectors: Wholesale and retail trade, food and accommodation services, telecommunications, financial and insurance services, real estate and rental services, business services, education services, health and social welfare services, arts, culture and sports-related services, public and personal services, and water utilities
- Buildings: Buildings with total floor area of 3,000㎡ or more, located nationwide across 17 metropolitan cities and provinces, categorized into 9 types (education and research, culture and assembly, accommodation, offices, medical facilities, retail facilities, neighborhood living facilities type 1, neighborhood living facilities type 2, broadcasting and communications)
- Households: General households as defined by the Population and Housing Census
  * Follows the definition by Statistics Korea. Excludes collective households (households of six or more unrelated individuals living together, or households residing in dormitories or social facilities like nursing homes/orphanages), and foreigner-only households(households consisting only of foreign nationals)
Energy Sources Included in the Survey
- Coal: Briquettes, domestic anthracite, imported anthracite, bituminous coal, coke, other coal
- Petroleum: Gasoline, kerosene, diesel, light fuel oil, fuel oil, heavy fuel oil, naphtha, refinery & off-gases, propane, butane, other petroleum products
- City gas, electricity, thermal energy (district cooling/heating), and renewable energy
- Excluded from Survey: Coal used for briquette production, non-energy uses (asphalt, solvents, paraffin wax, lubricants)
- By-product energy and self-generated electricity/heat production are surveyed but excluded from total aggregate calculations
  * By-product energy produced during industrial processes is excluded from aggregate totals to avoid double counting.
  * Self-generated electricity and heat production volumes are excluded from totals, including only the input fuel amounts in the aggregated data, to prevent double counting.
Excluded Survey Areas
- Commercial & Public: Defense, selected public administrative institutions, international and foreign institutions, electricity, gas, and steam supply businesses, household employment activities, street vendors without fixed facilities or business locations
- Transportation: Specialized passenger vans, specialized cargo vehicles, and other special-purpose vehicles
- Households: Independent households located on island regions.
