2. Purpose of the Statistics
- To identify energy consumption behaviors in the household sector and provide foundational data for national energy policy development and related research.
- To establish time-series data on household energy consumption patterns by household characteristics (e.g., housing type, housing area, number and composition of household members, household income), which cannot be derived solely from energy suppliers’ sales data.
3. Survey History
- 2009: Pilot survey of 1,500 households under the title ‘Household Energy Standing Survey’
- 2010: Test survey of 1,500 households
- 2011: First official survey conducted on approximately 2,500 households after obtaining statistical approval
- 2012–2018: 2nd to 8th surveys conducted (under the title ‘Household Energy Standing Survey’)
- 2019: Panel was restructured; 9th survey conducted with approximately 8,300 households (survey renamed to ‘Household Energy Panel Survey’)
- 2020–2024: 10th to 14th surveys conducted with approximately 7,400 households
* The sample consisted of around 2,500 existing panel households and 4,900 newly recruited households. In 2019, about 1,000 households using renewable energy were additionally included, but excluded from 2020 onward.
